Awad Eye Care Advanced Eye Exams
It is the priority of all of us at Awad Eye Care to provide top quality eye care in a personal, welcoming environment. Quality eye care starts with a thorough exam, which includes careful consideration of factors that may affect your day-to-day living.
Comprehensive Eye Exams: We are fully equipped to handle routine eye exams for patients that have not seen an eye doctor in several years and would like a general check-up. The American Academy of Ophthalmology recommends that all patients age 40-64 have a routine eye exam every 2-4 years and that all patients over 65 years of age have an eye exam every 1-2 years.
Pediatric Eye Exams: If you are concerned that your child’s eyes are crossing or that he/she is not seeing well, it is important to have their eyes evaluated. Visual development continues throughout the first decade of life and this time period is crucial for proper visual development. We can perform an eye exam on children of all ages (including pre-verbal children) to determine their visual function and whether further treatment is needed.
Glasses: We can provide you with a precise refraction and give you a new prescription for your glasses. We do not have an optical shop so you will need to purchase your glasses elsewhere.
Contact Lens Fitting: We are able to fit first-time contact lens patients as well as patients who have worn contact lenses for many years. We can order your contact lenses for you as well.
Cataract Evaluation/Surgery: A cataract is a clouding of the eye’s naturally clear lens. Cataract development is a normal process of aging but other factors such as inflammation, medications and certain diseases can speed the development of cataracts. Over 1.4 million people have cataract surgery each year in the United States. If a cataract is obscuring your vision we can provide you with the most advanced cataract surgery available.
Diabetic Eye Exams: Diabetic retinopathy is a very serious complication in patients diagnosed with diabetes. All patients with diabetes need to see an eye doctor at the time of diagnosis and then at least once a year following diagnosis. If diabetic retinopathy is detected, more frequent exams are recommended. We provide thorough diabetic exams and are equipped to provide treatment options if severe diabetic retinopathy develops.
Dry Eye Treatment: Dry eyes are a frequent problem that affects millions of Americans each year. Symptoms of dry eye include irritation, burning, foreign body sensation, excess tearing and mucus discharge from the eyes. Multiple levels of treatment are available starting with tear replacement with an artificial tear drop. If you are experiencing any of the above symptoms, we can help prescribe a treatment regimen to improve your symptoms.
Eyelid Surgery: Many elderly patients develop droopy eyelids which can interfere with their superior visual fields. Most people don’t realize that if a functional deficit can be documented, insurance companies will often pay for eyelid surgery. We can perform a quick assessment and tell you whether or not insurance would cover eyelid surgery and if so we can proceed with surgery on an outpatient basis.
Glaucoma Screening: Glaucoma is a leading cause of blindness in the United States, especially for older individuals. If detected early, loss of sight from glaucoma can often be prevented. Through a short screening exam, we are able to determine if you have glaucoma or if you are at risk of developing glaucoma.
Macular Degeneration: Macular degeneration is the leading cause of severe vision loss in Caucasians over the age of 65. Macular degeneration is a deterioration of the central part of vision which affects both near and distance vision. We provide screening for macular degeneration as well as follow-up for patients diagnosed with macular degeneration in the past.
Ocular Allergies: Allergies affecting the eyes can be quite debilitating to patients at different times of the year. Symptoms include itching, burning and swelling of the eyelids. If you suffer from seasonal or chronic allergies, we can prescribe drops that will help alleviate your symptoms.
